At Easterseals, we promote independence and create opportunities for people with disabilities to pursue their hopes and dreams. One way we do that is through our statewide advocacy coalition, which engages people in advocacy activities and provides leadership development and advocacy skills training opportunities across Texas. Our advocates educate decision-makers and drive progressive policies to support people with disabilities so they can live, work, and thrive in the community.
Easterseals Central Texas will be conducting a no cost training in Spanish on Wednesday March 21st from 9 AM-12:30 PM and a session in English on March 22nd 9 AM-12:30 PM for self-advocates, family members, and providers:
•understand concepts of self-determination and person-centered thinking
•learn about the role of self-advocates and family members in the disability rights movement
•identify a priority issue and plan how to organize around an issue
•effectively communicate with decision-makers and build relationships
•connect with other advocates and advocacy organizations!
Participants will have the opportunity to apply skills during hands on group activities, each participant will walk away with a toolkit to use during advocacy activities, and ongoing resources and support are available to participants after training. Please see the attached flyers and registration links and we invite you to share this opportunity with your families and other providers. Also, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about the advocacy training or Easterseals services and supports available to families in your area.
