2017 Autism Film Festival

AutFest Texas: Autism Film Festival & Casino Party

The Autism Society of Texas is excited to host our second annual Autism Film Festival, AutFest Texas, at Alamo Drafthouse with a Casino Party at The Highball on Sunday November 12, 2017. The films will run from 12:30- 10 pm, with the Highball party from 5-8 pm.

Why a film festival? Through film and video we can raise awareness in a broader community about life with autism. Through film we can show a range of ages and abilities, challenges and triumphs, (however big or small), that living with autism can bring. Viewers can also witness the dedication and support needed to give individuals with autism the greatest chance of reaching their full potential. Through film, we tell our story. All funds raised at the Autism Film Festival will stay here in Texas to support our mission of improving the lives of all affected by autism through free programming, information & support, education, advocacy, recreation, and community inclusion events.

Submit a Short Film

Are you a filmmaker? Please consider submitting your short film to our Film Selection Committee!  Filmmakers must be 16 years old & up, and short films cannot last longer than 10 minutes.

These are the questions we’ll be asking ourselves while reviewing your film:
Is there a strong narrative drive? Is there a clear beginning, middle, and end? Is it clear whose story is being told? Do they exhibit change? If a documentary, does the main subject’s portrayal feel honest? If a scripted narrative, does the main character’s performance feel well-informed?

Here are some additional questions we’ll be considering if the central message of your film is related to autism:
How does the story seem to serve those with autism? Do the characters portray people with autism in a positive light? How do these characters defy autism stereotypes? Is there a call-to-action element of the film designed to help people with autism?

During film selection, preference will be given to films about autism or films made by autistic filmmakers. All films must be submitted by midnight CST on Friday September 15, 2017.

Submit your film via a Youtube link here.
