Please join the Autism Society of Texas as we spend four sessions together learning advocacy skills and how the Texas legislature works! We strongly encourage you to attend all sessions!
We will meet on Zoom from 7:30-8:30 pm on the following dates:
Monday November 2, 2020
Monday November 9, 2020
Monday November 16, 2020
Monday November 23, 2020
No advocacy experience is required and we would love to have as many attendees as possible! We welcome parents and caregivers, as well as autistic adults, to join our sessions. We will provide tiered levels of advocacy training so there’s something new for everyone to learn! Topics will include the life of a bill, how and when to advocate during the legislative session (and between sessions during the interim), making legislative office visits (or video “visits” due to COVID), knowing who the decision makers are, and understanding statutes, codes, and rules. There will be time for Q & A during each session, plus possible additional time beyond 8:30 pm, which is optional for those who want to stay on for extra Q & A time.
Free, but please RSVP required to receive the Zoom links!
A list of optional enrichment activities will be provided, including viewing films and reading or listening to books, but they are not required for participation or understanding of the material that will be taught.
We will email all registered participants with a Zoom link at least two days before the first session.
