Advocacy 201 – Saturday – January 28th, 2017 11:00 – 1:00 AGE Building
In two hours members of the DS ACT Advocacy Committee (and invited guests) will provide a basic understanding of our State’s legislative process and how to interact directly with decisionmakers.
We will focus on how to create positive change by sharing your lived experiences with decisionmakers in order to make Texas a better place to live for people with Down syndrome. Parents of children with other disabilities are also welcome to attend.

At home, on the phone and in person
The Texas Legislative Process
How to educate decisionmakers
Current Issues
Scenarios/roleplaying
At the conclusion of this session, parent and self-advocates should be able to join in organized efforts to speak to local, county, school, and state officials.
