What happens when you first hear that your child has a developmental disability? How do you respond? How do you manage after several or many years go by? Who can you talk to about your own emotional reactions? What do you do when you are feeling overwhelmed? These are all questions that confront a person who has a child with a difference—a challenge—a disability. As professionals how do we support family members who are struggling with the impact of disability?
This workshop will use a grieving model to explore the emotional aspects of parenting a child with a disability. It will enable participants to understand the ongoing emotional impact that raising a child with a disability can have on all family members, as well as how to make meaning out of these emotions. This workshop is geared for parents of children of all ages, family members, and professionals who love and/or work with children with disabilities.
Please register by October 5th.
