About the event:

Please join the Autism Society of Texas, Autism Speaks, Easterseals, Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, Texans for Special Education Reform, Texas Parent to Parent, and other nonprofit groups, stakeholders, parents, and concerned advocates, as we spend the morning discussing legislative issues that affect individuals with autism, and their families. Following issues & advocacy training, we will a have complimentary lunch. After lunch we will visit with legislators or their staff. There will also be a press conference in the afternoon on the South Steps.  No advocacy experience is required and we would love to have as many attendees as possible! During legislative visits, if you are not comfortable communicating with legislators or their staff we will assign you to a group with an appointed spokesperson.

Schedule & Location:

8:45 – 9:00 AM: Arrival & Check In. Capitol Extension (Capitol Grill), Room E1.002
9:00-11:30 AM: Issues & Advocacy Training, followed by lunch.
11:30 AM – 2:00 PM: Appointments with legislators. (We are making appointments for attendees. We will divide into small groups in the afternoon).
2:00 PM: Press Conference on the South Steps. You do not need to register if you are just coming for the press conference.

We will email all registered participants with information and details a few days before the event. There is no cost to participate and lunch is included. Although we will start promptly at 9 AM, latecomers are welcome to join at any time. Check in & arrival begin at 8:45 AM.

Inexpensive parking is available in the Capitol Visitor’s Parking Garage. It is located at 1201 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX 78701
