Job Title: Group Facilitator – Recreation for Autistic Adults
Location: Waco, TX (In-person)
Position Type: Volunteer-In-Kind or Paid Contractor
Schedule: Monthly; 90-minute in-person group meetings + prep time
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced individual to lead monthly activity groups for Autistic adults in Waco. These in-person gatherings provide a welcoming and inclusive space for social interaction, connection, and fun community-based activities such as bowling, movies, or coffee outings. Activities will be held on a weekend day, and recur monthly at the same day/time.
Group Facilitators may serve as volunteers through a business or as independent professionals, or join as paid contractors, depending on their preference and background.
Position Options & Compensation:
- Volunteer-In-Kind (Individual Professional or Business-Affiliated):
- Professionals may donate their time individually or through their business/organization
- In-kind donation is eligible for a tax deduction; Autism Society of Texas (AST) can provide a formal tax letter upon request

- Ideal for Autism professionals or organizations looking to give back to the community
- Paid Independent Contractor:
- Compensation: $21–$25/hour for group facilitation and prep time, based on experience
- Contractors must have appropriate qualifications and the ability to invoice monthly
Key Responsibilities:
- Consistently facilitate monthly 90-minute in-person group for Autistic adults
- Plan inclusive, engaging community-based outings that encourage social interaction
- Foster a safe, respectful, and neurodiverse-friendly group environment
- Communicate with participants regarding activities and logistics
- Manage group dynamics and ensure a positive experience for all attendees
- Complete a short training on Autism Society of Texas (AST) guidelines and expectations
- Collaborate with AST staff on group dates, times, marketing, and group experience
Qualifications:
- Experience leading groups in a support, recreation, or therapeutic setting a plus
- Background in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Therapy (OT, Speech, ABA, etc), or related field
- Experience working with Autistic teens or adults
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Reliable transportation to attend community outings around Waco (driving group members will not be required or permitted)
