The Autism Society of Central Texas is committed to promoting an open and caring environment for families to share time with one another. Thrivent Choice Dollars has assisted in these efforts by providing needed funds to hold autism friendly social events, such as the annual Summer Picnic, which allows those with autism, and their families, an opportunity to have fun and be themselves. This year, the picnic will be held at the Cedar Park YMCA in August. The facility is perfect as it offers various activities for all ages and stages of autism, including an indoor and outdoor pool, zip line, water slides, and splash pad. ASCT also offers free food and various games at the event, for all ages.
By off-setting the cost through the use of the Choice Dollars grant funds, ASCT is able to offer events, such as our Summer Picnic, free of charge to the community. This is especially impactful for low-income community members, as they do not have to worry about the cost of bringing their loved ones to an event. Also, families are offered a safe place to socialize and build a network of peers. This aids in removing some of the financial, and emotional, strain that often goes with family outings. We are thankful to have these funds to support our families and individuals on the autism spectrum.
