Volunteer Needs: Birthday Brigade & Support Group Leaders

As many of you know, we have a small (but mighty) staff, and rely heavily on volunteers to support our autism community.  For over 20 years we relied solely on volunteers to support other parents and individuals with autism, and we need your help!

We are launching a new program this Fall, Birthday Brigade. This program will provide a birthday party for children or adults with autism. We have a location, but will need a lead “Birthday Brigade Coordinator” to coordinate party event details. We will train you in this role and provide support. We have space already donated through Austin YMCA.

We are also seeking additional support group leaders. This could either be to start a new group (if there is not one in your area of Texas), or we could use some volunteer “substitute” support group leaders. Because most of our support group leaders are volunteers, things come up – work, family, or other issues. It would be helpful to have some additional leaders to substitute or co-lead a group.

Resource Fairs & Conferences:  We are often asked to attend events and hand out literature about autism all over the state. These events are generally on weekdays between normal business hours. If you are able to help out for even two or three hours once a month or every couple of months, we could use assistance in this area also. Thank you!

If you are interested in helping in any of these areas please contact Caroline at caroline@texasautismsociety.org.
